THESE 5 things you should absolutely not do after eating!
There are a few things you should really wait to do after you eat
After eating you should relax! Put your feet up, get some sleep or eat some fruit for dessert? There’s nothing wrong with that, is there? Yes, you should think so…
After dinner, some lie down on the couch to watch their favorite series. Others go straight to bed to close their eyes first… affectionately known as ‘siesta’. There are also people who go straight to the gym after eating – just quickly work out what just came in… But are these habits actually good?
At the very least, you’d better not do the following things right after eating. That’s good to know, because we were surprised at all points. How are you?
Sleep:
Fancy a nap after dinner? Not a good idea! Your body can absorb the nutrients better when you are standing or sitting. If you have the habit of going to sleep after eating, you can have problems with rising stomach acid over time. This leads to heartburn, among other things. You’d better wait two hours to sleep. This gives your body enough time to digest your meal.
Sports:
You should not exercise immediately after eating. Your stomach is full of food and needs some digestion time first! There should be at least 2 hours between eating and exercising. If you only eat fruit, you can exercise in as little as 30-60 minutes. Because pure fruit digests very quickly. Your stomach needs the oxygen in the blood when you eat a full meal in order to be able to digest it efficiently. When you exercise, an enormous amount of oxygen is used for muscle tension. Not good at all for your digestive process in the body! Diarrhea and nausea may occur.
To eat fruit:
Fruit is very healthy, but not right after your meal. This is because fruit is digested much faster than other foods. This leads to congestion and chemical reactions in the digestive tract. You have to imagine it like this: the fruit is then ‘lying’ on the other (not yet fully digested food), actually wants to continue because it is fully digested, but can’t. This is how gases are formed: you feel bloated and want to get rid of a lot of air. Rather wait 1-2 hours before eating fruit after a large meal. (Best the other way around: first fruit, then meal!)
Drinking water:
You won’t get such big problems if you drink a little bit of water after/during the meal. However, if you drink 2-3 full glasses of water after your meal, the digestive juices are diluted and your stomach can no longer break down/digest and disinfect the food as efficiently. This can also lead to stomach pain.
Bath or shower:
Do you feel like a warm shower or bath after eating? Better not do that after dinner. Your body temperature increases when you eat a lot. It is therefore important that your body can cool down through the skin. This is the best way for your body to digest. If you take a hot shower or bath right after eating, your body temperature will rise even more and you’re more likely to get dizzy and have digestive problems.
