Don’t throw away old coffee grounds! It is still very useful for these 7 chores! Whether for swollen eyes or for cleaning pots and pans: coffee grounds work wonders
It’s like a little ritual. We brew a cup of coffee, sip it, and then throw away the coffee pod or filter. We should stop doing that from now on, because coffee grounds are obviously still very useful for many household chores.
Strange smells
Unfortunately, if you want fresh breath, brushing your teeth is still better than drinking a cup of coffee. Nevertheless, coffee can neutralize some unpleasant smells – even in the mouth. For example, you can suck on a coffee bean to get rid of the strong smell of garlic and onions. Or does your fridge sometimes have a strange and rather unpleasant smell? You can easily get rid of it by simply putting a container with coffee grounds in it.
Swollen eyes
No matter how many cups of coffee you drink in the morning, sometimes you still look sleepy. However, there are many tricks to get rid of dark circles under the eyes and coffee grounds is one of them. Simply mix some coffee grounds with water or olive oil and gently apply around the eyes. The caffeine stimulates blood circulation and therefore makes you look more alert. Leave this mask on for about 15 minutes and then rinse it off. You’ll see that it immediately seems like you had a good night’s sleep.
drive away insects
It’s hard to imagine anyone not liking coffee, but ants and fleas have a very special dislike for this beverage. This is quite useful as you can easily and effectively repel the insects with a few drops of coffee grounds. Simply place a cup of coffee grounds in places where bugs can easily get in, like near windows or doors. In summer, coffee grounds are even a miracle cure for mosquitoes if you use them like a kind of candle and light them (but be careful, you don’t want to set anything else on fire!).
marinate meat
Did you know that meat tastes better when marinated with coffee grounds? The acid in the coffee grounds makes the taste of the meat even more intense.
Clean pots and pans
Oops, did you accidentally burn something in the pan? No problem, you can also use coffee grounds to remove burnt food in pots and pans: simply put it in the pan and scrub clean with a scouring pad. That’s it!
wash hair
Coffee grounds are also great for washing your hair and removing any hairspray and dry shampoo residue. It also makes the hair soft and supple. However, you should be a bit careful with light hair, as coffee can also discolour the hair. Always make sure to rinse your hair thoroughly after washing the coffee grounds.
Clear clog in sink
Last but not least, coffee grounds also work wonders in clearing sink clogs. Just dump some coffee grounds down the drain, then pour boiling water and dish soap over it. This trick can also be used in the toilet. However, don’t use it too often to avoid damaging the sink.
Caution!
Be careful not to store coffee grounds for too long, as they can become moldy. Do you want to use it for one of the above tasks? Then drink a cup of coffee first and then do the work with “fresh” coffee grounds.
