King Charles 3 and Queen Camilla will host South African President Cyril Ramaphosa and First Lady Dr. Tshepo Motsepe for their first state visit next month. – Flash Royal News

After Queen Elizabeth passed away on September 8, the new owner of the throne, King Charles III, will be the first host. The King and Consort Queen will host South African President Cyril Ramaphosa and First Lady Dr Tshepo Motsepe between 22-24 November at Buckingham Palace.

When Ramaphosa arrived in London for a meeting of Commonwealth heads of government in 2018, he met the Queen and handed her letters sent by former president Nelson Mandela.

Buckingham Palace said last night: “The President of the Republic of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa, accompanied by Dr Tshepo Motsepe, has accepted the invitation of His Majesty the King to make a state visit.”

KING CHARLES 3 IS EXPECTED TO BE WELCOME TO BUCKINGHAM PALACE

The state visit next month will be the first since former US President Donald Trump’s arrival to the UK in 2019. The Emperor of Japan was expected to arrive in 2020, but was canceled due to the pandemic.

Normally, heads of state would be hosted at Buckingham Palace, but it is unclear whether this will be possible this time, as construction work is underway on the monarch’s official London home. That’s why the last head of state hosted at Buckingham Palace was Dutch King Willem-Alexander in 2018. President Trump, on the other hand, stayed at his official residence in London with the US Ambassador when he came to visit.

State visits are seen as a crucial part of the Royal Family’s role in promoting the UK abroad and strengthening international relations. All state visits are made at the request of the Office of Foreign Affairs, Commonwealth of Nations and Development.

It is noteworthy that the timing of the trip came at a time when there were accusations against Ramaphosa. Ramaphosa is charged with crimes such as money laundering and bribery.
